The Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System (NMRLS) uses several electronic means to
provide communications channels for our member libraries. In an effort to ensure that our
communications expectations are being met, NMRLS reserves the right to make judgments and to
refuse communications that do not fit the criteria in the following guidelines.
Electronic Discussion Lists
The NMRLS general discussion list (nmrls@mlin.lib.ma.us) provides a communications forum for member
libraries. Library staff from all Massachusetts libraries are encouraged to exchange ideas, post
questions or vacancies, announce surplus items for sale, or to use the discussion list for other
library-related purposes. NMRLS staff, committees and executive board use this list for announcements
to the membership. Information dealing with issues specific to other regions shall not be included.
Commercial announcements and advertisements are not permitted.
Additional electronic discussion lists are planned to address more specific needs of member libraries.
NMRLS reserves the right to limit participation to member libraries and to exclude postings outside
the scope of a list. Acceptable use policies will be posted on our Web site.
Web Site
The NMRLS Web site is provided as a means of communicating with member libraries and other
interested parties. NMRLS reserves the right to include or exclude any information on this site
based on our priority of providing services of value to member libraries. Some examples follow:
- NMRLS posts library-related jobs on our site for positions within the region or related to the
region, e.g., positions in other regional system headquarter offices, automated resource sharing networks, or at
our funding agency, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Other positions outside
the region will not be posted.
- NMRLS may post information about commercial vendor services that have been approved for a
contract or are being considered for future contracts. Other commercial information will not be posted.
