Access to Electronic Resources

In order to gain access to Statewide and Regional Databases, your library must:

  1. Be a member of NMRLS (or one of the six regional library systems)

  2. Have access to the Internet either through your network (NOBLE or MVLC) or through a Commercial Internet/Cable Provider

  3. Complete and return a "Database Access Form" to the NMRLS Headquarters. Download this Form (with instructions) in MS Word '97 format.

Once NMRLS receives your completed Database Access Form, we will be able to determine how your library accesses the Internet.

Briefly,

  1. Libraries who gain access to the Internet via a static IP (Internet Protocol) address or range of IP addresses will enjoy access to the databases directly once their IP's are authenticated by the vendors.

  2. Libraries who gain access to the Internet via dynamic or changing IP's, must be assigned a Username and Password for access to each resource. This information is entered into each workstation once in order to set a "cookie" file that then authenticates the workstation for future access to the resources.

There are always exceptions to these rules; however, once determined, we forward your Internet access information to all of our vendors so that they may either authenticate your IP's or assign a Username and Password. This process takes about 1-2 weeks.
