History: During the Spring of 2003, NMRLS Youth Services piloted an Intern Program. Two young women, seniors at Gordon College, were placed in two public libraries. The seed for this began as a brainstorming idea in a Youth Services Committee meeting in early 2001. From that point on, it was a matter of getting the information out at the right time at the right place. Currently, Gordon, Merrimack, Endicott, and North Shore Community College periodically receive this flyer to post in their Career Offices. The student contacts me and I find out what his or her interests are in libraries and then I find a host library. The idea is to give the student a chance to "test" the library profession. I encourage the library to allow the student to experience as many departments in the library as possible. The interns tell their own stories
(Spring 08) Esther Pierce, Beverly Public Library We intend to continue this program and are gradually opening it up to more and more colleges in the area. If you are interested in hosting an intern, please email Susan Babb.
