FY06 - FY07 Plan of Service for Youth Services

This Plan will provide a focus on the needs of member librarians in the Region who work with youth, birth through young adult. The Plan covers Fiscal Years 06 and 07. Come spring 2006, we will be aligned with other NMRLS Committees in creating a Plan of Service for FY08.

The Committee has worked diligently on this Plan and currently we are brainstorming ideas to implement the objectives of the Plan.

Goal:
To strengthen and communicate the role of youth services in the school and public library, the community, and the region.

Objective 1:
To encourage the use of libraries and library services by the youth of the Northeast Region.

Activities:

1. Identify model library programs which serve youth
2. Provide opportunities for librarians to explore topics of interest and importance
3. Provide resources for programs and services

Evaluative measures:

• Annual assessment of youth services and programs
• Program evaluations by attendees

Objective 2: Provide assistance, leadership, and support to professional and paralibrarian youth services librarians.

Activities:

1. Provide workshops
2. Advocate for the use of applicable library standards
3. Provide orientation for new staff in region
4. Maintain professional resources for members
5. Identify mentors in member libraries for their expertise

Evaluative measures:

• Program evaluation by attendees
• Program statistics
• Annual needs assessment of members

Objective 3: Support cooperation, collaboration and partnerships with between public and school libraries and other community and professional organizations.

Activities:

1. Identify community organizations
2. Support the development of collaborative programs
3. Partner with other regional and state organizations

Evaluative measures:

• Surveys
• Identify successful program collaborations
